HABITAT RESTORATION EFFORTS FOR BOBWHITES SPUR QUAIL FOREVER GROWTH IN SOUTHEAST AND SOUTHERN GREAT PLAINS
Restoring and sustaining the traditions of quail hunting in southern states is on the mind of upland hunters amidst a burst of Quail Forever chapter starts (11) stretching from the plains of Texas to the longleaf pine forests of the Southeast. Staffers of “The Habitat Organization” are pleased to welcome new volunteer committees in Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.
Replicating more than 180 Quail Forever chapters nationwide, the new local affiliates will utilize the organization’s signature fundraising model. Unique among national conservation groups, Quail Forever chapters are empowered with 100 percent control over the funds they raise at banquets and other events. This allows chapters to direct their funds to upland habitat projects, public lands purchases or the ability to host youth outdoor experiences in their respective regions.
“Since the beginning of 2019, Quail Forever has experienced nearly seven percent growth in our chapter network throughout the quail range,” stated Tim Caughran, director of field operations for Quail Forever. “Combined with new partnership opportunities, our volunteers continue to find innovative ways to impact quail habitat conservation and new hunter recruitment efforts. The good ol’ days for quail habitat are yet to come!”
